MBW is establishing an EHS management system to ensure that:

  • We plan and organize EHS efficiently and effectively through providing safe places, safe designs, safe construction methods and selection of materials for both staff and contractors.
  • We minimize harm to the environment in our operations through policies, procedures and specifications for; soil erosion control, dust control, safe use of false works, elimination of oil/hydrocarbon spillages, minimization of CO2 emission, reinstatement of borrow pits; checking vehicle over-speeding, minimization of paper wastage, safe disposal of empty ink/toner cartridges and polythene, environmental impact offset through tree planting and embankment protection, and provision for Personnel Protection Equipment (PPE)
  • Staff and contractors are given appropriate EHS training to perform their tasks competently, safely and with due regard for the environment.
  • Risks from our activities are assessed and either eliminated or reduced to acceptable levels through; appropriate designs, construction supervision and selection of materials and construction method statements.
  • We comply with all applicable laws and regulations and apply responsible standards where the legislation is inadequate or non-existent.
  • We are comprehensively prepared to respond in the event of an emergency.
  • We promote a culture of investigating and reporting non-conformances, near misses, incidents and accidents and sharing lessons learned to avoid similar incidents in the future.
  • We will review this EHS policy periodically to ensure its relevance and effectiveness with ongoing operations. We have an audit programme which verifies compliance with this policy and monitors our EHS performance.
  • We will regularly set and review our EHS objectives and targets with the aim of ensuring continual improvement in EHS knowledge and performance.
  • We provide a strong and evident leadership commitment to EHS; however, everyone in MBW has individual responsibility and accountability for their own safety and that of others, and is obliged to actively participate in promoting an effective EHS culture.
