Rehabilitation of Rural Feeder Roads in the Area-based Agricultural Modernization Programme (AAMP)

Project Description

Rehabilitation of over 810km of district feeder roads in the Area-based Agricultural Modernisation Programme (AAMP) districts of Uganda under the Plan for Modernisation of Agriculture (PMA). The project aimed at opening up rural agricultural hinterland to access markets for the produce. Some roads were merely narrow footpaths and their rehabilitation to class B or C Class had immediate positive socio-economic impact. Training of the district engineers’ staff for design, procurement and contract supervision was a major component of the project and emphasis on the management of labour based contracts.

Services Rendered

Design and supervise civil works for the feeder roads, undertake monthly site inspections and meetings, submit periodic reports to the Employer, act as liaison between districts and employer, train and support districts to build up their own maintenance capacity and in establishing a working relationship with contractors.
